Beach.

Check out Mallard’s at the Wharf for waterfront dinning or Bizzotto’s Gallery-Cafe on Market St. Located on Onancock Creek this quiet little village has a number of dining spots, bed and breakfast inns and the Old Charlotte Hotel for overnight accommodations.

You can also take the passenger ferry over to Tangier Island to explore the old waterman’s way of life.  Tangier Island and neighboring Smith Island can only be reached by boat.  Stroll around the streets  of Tangier …. no cars allowed …. and enjoy the atmosphere of Chesapeake Bay life.

Onancock has plenty of galleries, and shops to explore, or just stroll along the tree lined streets and take in the old style architecture , with some mid 19th century homes still in use … that were the land base for sea captains that sailed the Chesapeake Bay in vessels large and  small.  There is a free self guided walking tour.  You can get the brochure down at the wharf … or click here  for a pdf version you can down load prior to your trip.

Onancock has a variety of old mid 19th housing styles from Federal, Queen Ann, Victorian and Italianate to mention a few.   This Eastern Shore treasure is a must see.  Take time to visit during the summer, and if your in town on a Saturday, take in the Farmers Market for local home grown vegetables too.
