Oysters are in Season
The Oyster season is in full swing in Va Beach and other waterfront communities around the Chesapeake Bay. Typically the best season are months with and “r” in them and January is peak. Many local restaurants are serving oysters on the half shell, and with Va Beach restaurant week coming up soon, you’ll want to take advantage of the season.
Local harvest from the Lynnhaven and the Chesapeake Bay are making a big comeback from the decimating decline in Oyster population that began in the late 70’s into the late 90’s. With many aqua culture farms in and around our region, the oyster population is overcoming the odds Plus we have seen some improvement in Chesapeake Bay water quality and clarity in the last year.
